Day Trip to Priorat!

Great wine, fantastic food, and beautiful scenery are yours in Catalunya's Priorat wine region, an easy and wonderful day trip from Bailèn 41 at a total price of about €165 for two! 

At Bailèn 41, we’ve got everything all planned out for you and stand ready to assist with the necessary advance reservations. Here are the details:

8 am: From Bailèn 41 walk to Estació de França to catch the 8:43 R15 train down the coast to Tarragona and then west and up into the mountains of Priorat.

10:55 am: Arrive at Marça-Falset train station, where Taxi Priorat awaits to take you on the very short drive to Falset’s “Cathedral of Wine,” a co-op of 500 producers with DO Monsant grapes.

The cathedral is a unique cellar, both for its 1911 Modernist design and its unusual wine-making facilities, including a process whereby fermenting grapes are stored on the roof for a year to produce a "rancid" wine that is just great for cooking steaks.

Oleguer Escoda will lead you on a fun and detailed tour, followed by a wine and olive oil tasting and, of course, shopping opportunities. The larger co-op store half a block down the street also has other local goods from coop members, including olives, dried fruits, crackers and cookies, and more.

12:45 pm: Meet up with Taxi Priorat for the 15-minute ride to Gratallops and a gourmet marriage of

locally sourced food & DO Priorat wine at the Clos Figueras cellars and restaurant. 

 White wine and appetizers (local cheeses and breads) are followed by red wine with an assortment of cold cuts and patés, another red wine with a 0-km Mediterranean salad, and then the main course: your choice of fish, sausage, or lamb (the last highly recommended!). The feast wraps up with assorted desserts and coffee or herbal tea. Goodness!

Clos Figueras also has a small hotel, in case you’re tempted to stay. . . 

After lunch, stroll the village and check out a few more of the many other cellars in Gratallops.

5:30 pm: Rendezvous with Taxi Priorat for the return to Marça-Falset train station.

6:04 pm: Catch the R15 back to Barcelona.

8:28 pm: Arrive Estació de França and head happily to Bailèn 41, your wonderful home base away from home in Barcelona.
