Live from the Palau de la Música Català!

A "Beethoven marathon" kicked off the Palau de la Música Català's 2015-2016 season in grand fashion on September 7.

Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and pianist Alexander Melnikov had a packed house enthralled for almost three hours as they played all five of Beethoven's sonatas for cello and piano. The pieces display the continuum of Beethoven's musical progression: the first two were written in 1796, the third in 1808, and the last two in 1815.

Wish you could have been there? Your wish is our command, thanks to Catalunya Radio, which broadcast the performance and has posted the entire recording on its website. The music begins at approximately 5:40, but you may enjoy listening to the introductory commentary in Catalan! Good practice for your visit to Barcelona.

And speaking of visiting, check out our Walking Tour #3 with all the details of getting to the Palau (as well as more photos!) from Bailèn 41, the best place to stay in Barcelona.
